What is Yoga Therapy?

The Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) describes yoga therapy as:

"Yoga therapy is taught by yoga teachers with additional training and experience in the therapeutic adaptation and application of yoga. People may be taught one-to-one or in a therapy group setting."

In simple terms, yoga therapy uses the tools of yoga; movement, breathwork, relaxation, meditation and self-reflection, in a way that’s individually tailored. It isn’t about perfect poses; it’s about meeting you where you are and supporting your health, resilience and balance.

A session might begin with a conversation about your health and priorities, before exploring gentle movement, breathing or guided relaxation. Over time, these practices can ease stress, improve sleep, support recovery and nurture emotional wellbeing.

Yoga therapy is suitable for all body types and backgrounds, whether you’re managing a health condition, feeling overwhelmed or simply seeking to be the best version of yourself. What matters most is open curiosity and the willingness to practise.

At its heart, yoga therapy is about supporting the whole person; body, mind, emotions and spirit with practices that fit your life.

Life can move fast. Stress, fatigue, overwhelm and big feelings can creep in quietly, until suddenly you're reacting in ways that you're not proud of.

This is where yoga therapy can gently support you.

Through breath, movement, stillness, and guided rest, yoga therapy offers a space to pause, to reconnect and begin feeling like you again. It’s not about fixing or striving it’s about softening, listening and creating a safe place, a refuge within your busy life.

Sessions are either online or held in my purpose-built Yoga pod in Colden Common. Initial sessions are typically face to face when possible and then either face to face or online as you wish.

Rather than relying on one session a week, you’re gently guided into a rhythm of practice that stabilises your nervous system, deepens your awareness and creates lasting change. It’s the combination of tailored support and consistent self-practice that allows the shifts to move from something you experience… into something you live.

The Space: Step into the Yoga Pod, Colden Common

Nestled in Colden Common, 15 minutes from central Winchester, my purpose-built yoga pod is a small but perfectly formed sanctuary. With underfloor heating, soft lighting and the scent of aromatherapy oils, it’s a cocoon of calm. Enjoy gentle music, birdsong from the garden and all the props you need; blankets, bolsters and eye pillows. Free on-street parking right outside makes arriving easy. A warm, welcoming space to rest, restore and reconnect.
